In my study, I am interested in creating a scene that challenges the human common sense. I aim to trigger familiar but different feelings that can shock an individual’s senses, particularly visually. For example, creating a large view/scene in a small space by bringing the outside environment into an indoor one, by shrinking a person’s perspective in an open area, and by changing their point of view.
I am interested in pursuing this project to design a space relating to natural environments, such as forests. A simple rest station or small spaces can be transformed into primal environments, which explore space and evoke emotions. Here the audiences’ position in space is changed through effects such as lighting and reflections. This space will include a resting area and a viewing area, leaving the audience with a memorable impression.
I really like the contrast of experience and emotion that space can give people. Similar to surrealism designs, the space can challenge people’s emotions and senses, but also be functional and comfortable.
Aesthetics alone does not complete a design. The detail in the design should be comfortable, reasonable, and interact with the audience. The designs should draw people into the special atmosphere and challenge them to think, meditate and truly experience.
Through this project, I am looking to further deepen my understanding of the relationship between the design and site environment, the relationship between human and space, environment reflections, transparencies in space and how space can affect human emotions.
